December 2008 – Letter from the President

Dear members and friends,

Thanksgiving reminded me of how much we have to celebrate. Despite the turbulent social, economic, environmental, and spiritual times we still have more than enough of everything and then some. It seems most of my business discussion — following the part about the slowing economy and concern over marketing budgets being cuts — usually end in some variation of a search for the next personal purchase. Maybe it’s a new paint color for the home, or a special food or wine, an upcoming vacation, or maybe a deal on a laptop for the daughter going to college. Hmmm, “tough” times?

Still, the reality is that short of a miracle, the economy and our businesses are going to cool down for a while. This is an ideal time for networking. Strengthen old ties and make new ones. Find those hidden gems of opportunity that appear in cracks of conversations. Celebrate the industry with colleagues while you have a slow moment. Or better yet, volunteer and use this time to give back to the community that gave us so much to take for granted.

With our new identity, our closer ties to the national American Advertising Federtion, and the new AAF Nashville website, we hope you continue to enjoy the many networking opportunities that AAF Nashville provides online and off.

Yours,
David Howe
